I don't often recommend things offered by others, unless I've tried them myself. Now, I have come across something quite exceptional, which will take significant chunk of your time, but might be the best thing you ever do for your business. This isn't a sales email, and I'm not on commission (so sorry if it sounds like one!). Goldman Sachs (the bank) have provided very significant funding to help 10,000 small business around the world develop and grow. They have funded a framework of 6 month training courses for business owners (developed with Oxford University and others). We're... Read more... |

Livid I was. Every other week I lug the green bin to the side of the road for the council to collect.
Or not. Recently, they refused to collect my green bin (no pun intended).
Ever happened to you?
Instead, the council stuck a snotty sticker telling me how my bin was no longer eligible for their collection round.
Apparently, I'm no longer allowed to put any cardboard into the green bin. How stupid of me. They stuck the new sticker over the previous sticker which cajoled me to put ALL of my cardboard in the same green bin. Unfortunately I'd... Read more... |

I'm sure at some point in your life, you've played monopoly; and experienced the joy of landing your counter on Mayfair with a shiny new hotel, instantly to be bankrupted. Or maybe you were the one who owns Mayfair, with its shiny new hotel, delighting in driving others into penury. Although it is normally played with paper, it has in the past been played with real cash (at the world championships, the winner walks away with $20,580, the total amount in bank for a normal (US) game*). There's a HUGE difference between using Monopoly money and the real stuff.... Read more... |

One is very dangerous number in business. One supplier, who if they let you down could bring your business to its knees. One subcontractor, who if they left or became ill could leave you in the lurch. One employee who's the only one who can access your server admin account. Or one big customer who takes so much work from you that you start to depend on them. Have you got any ones which maybe should become twos, threes or fours? Because , I very much doubt they'll suggest you arrange additional options... Dave

I'm sure you're smart enough to avoid falling for April fool jokes - I certainly thought I was. Until yesterday, that is. My Brother (who is an interesting character) sent me a text message saying he was in a tight spot, to call the number in the message and ask for Liz. This is a fairly typical message from him, as he's got into a few tight spots in the past, including being locked up abroad, so when he said he was in a tight spot it could have been serious. So I dutifully called the number, and a woman... Read more... |

, Slot machines can be VERY addictive. A friend of mine once told me of a trip to Las Vegas where the slot machines take $5 tokens, but if a player comes up trumps they could walk out with a new BMW sports car. When it happens there is a fanfare of sirens and flashing lights, bringing the entire casino to a halt whilst the manager hands over the keys.
However, I'm not talking about THOSE slot machines. I'm talking about the ones where you put 2p pieces in, and try to use them to push other 2ps over the edge... Read more... |
